We encourage you to contact our legislators to express your support of the Glades communities, businesses, and farms. 


This bill will have a devastating impact on the Glades communities, the Floridas's agricultural industry, and will further stall the progress of Everglades Restoration. Together we can fight this attack on farmers, agricultural communities south of the lake, and Florida's entire economy. 


Legislators receive an abundance of mail daily, however a succinct, well thought out personal letter (via email or Postal Service) is one of the most effective ways of influencing lawmakers.


How to Write a Legislator in 5 Easy Steps

Step 1.  Find your elected officials click here

Step 2.  From the attached list, develop an email to your respective Senator and Representative.

Step 3.  Keep your message short and in the first paragraph, identify yourself with the name of your city and your occupation (if applicable).

Step 4.  Try to keep your message short and make your case with facts in fewer than 500 words.

Step 5.  If they are supportive of our issues, thank them. If they are not, encourage them to support us (by resisting calls to buy more land south of Lake Okeechobee)


Additional Tips for Drafting an Effective Letter to a Legislator

DO - Be brief, but informed. 

DO - Be courteous and respectful without "gushing."

DO - State what it is you want done or recommend a course of action.

DO - Be courteous, to the point, and include specific supporting examples.

DO - Thank the member for taking the time to read your letter.

DON'T - Don't let your passion get in the way of making your point by using profanity, or threats.

DON'T -Fail to include your name and address, even in email letters.

DON'T - Demand a response.
